Elementary School (Grades K-6)

  • Develop strong reading and writing foundations early on.

    Support will include:

    Students will learn about:

    3. How laws work and how governments function

    4. Reading social studies and nonfiction texts

Middle School (Grades 7-8)

  • Improve critical thinking and build advanced writing skills.

    Support will include:

    1. Literary analysis and advanced reading comprehension

    2. Essay structure and writing mechanics (structure, thesis, support)

    3. Essay feedback and revisions

    4. Advanced vocabulary development

    5. How to conduct basic research for writing essays

    6. Creative writing, poetry, journalistic writing, and more

  • Learn more advanced concepts in civics, economics, and geography within the context of United States history, and develop intellectual skills required for responsible citizenship.

    7th graders will learn about:

    1. Foundational U.S. and world history topics and skills for historical and geographical analysis

    2. American history since 1865

    3. Essay writing and organizing historical arguments

    4. Interpreting primary and secondary sources

    5. Understanding the Constitution, branches of government, and civic responsibility

    8th graders will learn to:

    1. Constitutions of Virginia and the United States

    2. Identify the rights, duties, and responsibilities of citizens

    3. Describe the structure and operation of government at the local, state, and national levels

    4. Connect historical events to current issues

    3. Timed writing & testing strategies for AP/IB English

    4. Personalized feedback on school assignments (regular, honors, AP/IB, or private English curriculum)

  • This class is for rising high school seniors (Grade 12) who are starting to brainstorm and write their college essays and supplementals.

    This bootcamp is designed to be a focused, intensive writing workshop for a small group of rising seniors to pick their essay topics and write their first drafts of all their college essays, including supplementals. I will introduce the college application personal narrative essay to students and work with them to write compelling and authentic college essays.

    Support will include:

    1. Understanding what admissions officers are looking for

    2. Brainstorming meaningful topics and personal growth themes

    3. Structuring a powerful personal narrative and writing in the student’s unique voice

    4. Coming up with an effective hook

    5. Drafting and revisions

    6. Detailed feedback from an experienced tutor and former admissions interviewer

    7. Two one-on-one mentoring sessions

    8. Writing the Common App essay, the University of California personal insight questions, and college-specific supplementals
